Things I failed to blog (beauty-related)

Remember before I told you that I still have alot of things I need to blog and promised that I will do a  blog post about them really soon. Guess what, I failed! I tried, but I couldn’t find time to blog everything (one at a time). So I decided to do a group review. However, I can’t give you a comprehensive on all the products. Nevertheless, If you want me to do a thorough review on some products in this post, just leave a comment so I would know what are the products you are most interested with. (you can also tweet and messaged me on facebook)

PRIMERS:

Dr.Oil Solution Anti-Shine Dual Primer – Price: 498 – I don’t like it. It doesn’t do anything on my face.

The Body Shop Skin Primer Matte It – Price: ?? – Great primer especially if you have dry skin. But it works for people with oily skin too (or combi). Oil control is great but not superb. Amazing primer if you have flaky/dry skin, makes makeup glides easily with it. Yet, it’s quite pricey for the amount of product that I was able to get. Nevertheless, I still love it. It’s my saviour. I have a combination skin, (oily on tzone and really flaky on cheeks) and I use this on my cheeks to smoothens that surface for better makeup application.

Faceshop Pore Minimizer Cover-up – Price: ?? – Pricey for something that does nothing special. Hard to apply on face due to thick consistency.  Though it works for filling up the fine lines and pores.

Nyx HD Studio Photogenic Primer- Price: Php 650 – AMAZING! SUPERB IN OIL CONTROL!!!!! A must buy for people with oily skin (and combination). Brightens up complexion due to its color (white). The consistency is rather liquidy. However, make sure that your face is totally dry when you apply this or else, you’ll find it hard to blend it on your face.

FOUNDATIONS
Fanny Serrano Two way cake foundation in Organza - Php 399 - I haven't tried it enough yet to do a review. But the staying power is decent and coverage is good.
Faceshop Phytogenic Infinite Foundation - Good foundation. Quite expensive, though. One pot wouldn't last a month if used for everyday.

LIPSTICKS
Covergirl Lip Perfection in Heavenly - Php 395 - The formulation is good. It doesn't make my lips dry but lasts really long. The shade is definitely not nude as described in other reviews. It is slightly brighter (pinkier) than Nyx Tea Rose. However, it does oxidize on me.

Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick in Coral Pink - Php 299 - The formulation is average for lipstick, not drying and good pigmentation. The shade is pretty, great for everyday.

Etude House Look at my lips in 10 - Price: I forgot again. It's around Php 300- is a nude lipstick with peach undertone. The pigmentation is quite sheer, it doesn't makes my lips dry but do not lasts long.

LIPBALMS
Venus and Mars Lip Butter Tints in Wine Pearl - Php 180 - very moisturizing, nice shade. Great lip tint. People who hates lipstick (drying) will love this.

Mary Kay Lip Balm in Mango - Php 600 (something) - EXPENSIVE! And not moisturizing. The shade is pretty but I don't like the formulation. It accentuates the cracks and lines on my lips. The smell and color are nice, though.

Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm - less than Php 100 - another disappointment! i don't like it, not moisturizing.

LIPLINER AND GLOSSES

Etude House Soft Touch Automatic Lip Liner - no need to sharpen. Affordable. The shade I got is very close to my lipcolor, thus, appears nothing on my lips. Staying power is so so.

Wet n Wild Lip Liner - I love the formula. Very Affordable, one pencil will lasts me forever. Glides smoothly on lips.

Avon Lip liner and color - Great formulation, great staying power.

Careline Lipgloss - the best among all the most affordable lipglosses. I love it. great pigmentation, staying power, all! Who says you can't have the best of both worlds?

BLUSHES

Avon True Color Blush in Rose Lustre –Great blush!! Color is pretty. It’s pigmented. Good staying power. Not chalky.

In2it Blush in CW 03 Sensation- The color is beautiful! It’s a peachy shade on me. Good pigmentation. Average staying power. Not chalky.

Sansan Mousse Blush in Rosy Blush – I apply this before my Ever Bilena blush and it’s gorgeous! gREat staying power when use alone (set with powder) or use as base for blush.

Elf Blush in Peachykeen- Php 250- the shade is to die for. But it doesn’t appear pretty on my cheeks!!! Seriously, it’s like a shimmers with gold (not gold with shimmer lol) on my cheeks. Very chalky and staying power is average.

Prestige Blush – the shade is beautiful (pinky coral). Staying power is great and not chalky. It is pigmented enough.

Ever Bilena Blush in Honest - Php 150- the packaging looks good. The blush is really pretty (coral). The staying power is great. Overall, I highly recommend it

EverBilena in Pink Petal - I don't like the twist-up packaging. The blush is pretty but not as pigmented as EB Blush in Honest.

Elf Blush in Glow - Php 120- the color is gorgeous, a coral blush with gold shimmers. However, the packaging is very cheap, the powder is not as pigmented as I want it to be, it is very chalky too. I wouldn't repurchase again.

Eyebrow Pencil and kits

Elf Eyebrow Kit in Light, medium, dark - Php250 each - good buy. Comes in 3 shades, quite affordable. The packaging is cute and handy. Stays until the end of the day. The wax in the kit is good enough, the powder is pretty chalky.

Modelco Designer Eyebrow Kit - Php 1400 - expensive. Comes with 4 stencils (very fine, fine, natural and full), 2 angled brushes, spoolie and tweezer. The wax is really good. The powder is pretty chalky. The angled brushes are perfect for filling the hairs, spoolie is small but useful and the tweezer is good. Overall, a great eyebrow kit but overpriced (for me!)

Etude House Easy Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown- I love eyebrow pencils from Etude House. It works really well on me. This one is a pointed eyebrow pencil, you need to sharpen it. Dual ended. Comes with a brush. The shade is not really dark brown. It's lighter brown, perfect for people with black hairs but wanted a lighter eyebrow.

MASCARA

The Faceshop Extreme Volume Mascara - my HG non-waterproof mascara. The only mascara I used for everyday. It doesn't smudge on me but can be removed with soap and water. It doesn't give me a panda eyes when I accidentally rubbed it off my eyes. I like it so much

Revlon Beyond Natural Mascara - good waterproof mascara. It does lengthens my eyelashes. Hard to remove, though. Perfect for special occasions. The applicator is easy to use for upper and lower lashes.

Gel Liner

Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Gel Liner - Php400 something - I got mine on sale (Php 314). The gel liner is as creamy as Mac Blacktrack. The brush that comes in the liner is pretty good, but I use angled brush since it's alot easier to use. It doesn't last forever on my eyes but lasts longer when sets with black eyeshadow.

Mac Fluidline in Blacktrack -Here is my first review on Mac Fluidlne. Yes, it smudges like it's crumbling. It doesn't lasts long when use alone (lasts longer when sets with black eyeshadow). However, I had this for a year now and I can still use it! Amazing, right? It's expensive but really worth it!

Liquid Liners

Tony Moly Easy Touch Brush Liner - Php 458One of my biggest disappointments this year. I was looking for a waterproof eyeliner. The SA recommended this to me so I purchased it. And yes, the hell, it's non-waterproof. It's quite pricey for my taste.  I used it once and never ever used it again. What a waste of money. When it dries, the color turns to be gray rather than black.

Fanny Serrano Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner - Php 198 - the cheapest felt tip liquid liner I had. It does stays long on my eyes, but not forever. Can be easily removed with soap and water. Great liquid liner for the price (really).

Eyeshadow Palettes

Clinique - The purple is gorgeous, (perfect for everyday, work/school and even occasions). The definer (dark brown) is perfect as crease color. The dual ended brush is decent for touch ups.

Avon  Quad  - Another gorgeous color combi in a palette. The colors are quite pigmented and not chalky. The packaging is identical to the blush.

Avon Quad - great for everyday and work. I love all the colors, honestly.

Nyx Glitter Cream Palette - I got it for free when I won a giveaway from this store. The first three colors are really beautiful, but the two colors, does not appear really well on me.

Almay Quad-  favorite quad among the rest. The 1st color is gorgeous as highlighter or if you want to brightens up areas of your eyes (or even face).

Elf Quad - very pigmented. Great for smokey eye look. I don't like it though since it is very chalky.

Sk
FACIAL WASHES

D & G light Blue and Benetton Paradiso and Inferno
Benetton Paradiso and Inferno is a cheaper alternative for D & G Light Blue (has more citrus scent). However, D&G stays longer on me.

Venus and Mars La Chica
Smells really good and amazing staying power!! Seriously, you should try it.
Goody Stayput (200php plus)
Quite expensive but it is definitely a slide-proof clips.

My recent haul

Here are the beauty-related things I purchased a while ago (and a days ago).

Chapstick- Php 78
Veet- Php 99 (My forever savior!)

Nyx HD Studio Photogenic Primer - Php650 at Eastwood Bazaar (superb in oil control!)

Menopause Nutritional Guidelines to Prevent Bone Weakening and Overweight

Menopause is defined as the permanent cessation of menstruation, and marks the end of reproductive life of women. It is part of the process called menopause or menopausal transition, in which the ovaries stop producing eggs, the body produces less hormones (estrogen and progesterone) and menstrual cycles become less frequent, until it disappears.

Menopause is a natural event that occurs between 45 and 55 years of age. Its common symptoms include:
* Heart pounding or racing.
* Hot flashes
* Cold sweat.
* Redness of the skin.
* Sleep problems (insomnia).

At the end of their reproductive lives, women experience hormonal changes that favor the occurrence of overweight, diabetes, stroke and bone weakness. To avoid these conditions, exercise and balanced diet are allies you can trust.

The last menstruation or menopause is a natural time, but critical in the life of every woman. Occurs between 45 and 55, and starts the menopause, which is defined as the time of completion of cyclical generation of eggs (reproductive cells) and recorded decreased production of hormones (estrogen).

Specifically, these new organic conditions are associated with two fundamental problems:
* Bone loss. Generates weakening of the bones (osteoporosis), spinal deformity and increased risk of fracture.
* Weight gain. It is linked to fat accumulation in arteries (atherosclerosis), myocardial infarction (lack of blood supply to the heart), diabetes (high blood sugar), high blood pressure, breast cancer and joint damage.

However, it is important to note that the occurrence of these conditions can be avoided or delayed with a personalized eating plan that includes an individual, appropriate physical activity and, if necessary, medication.

Nutritional Guidelines
While attention and diet of the woman who lives the climacteric should be supervised by a specialist (gynecologist or dietitian), as only they can determine the patient's ideal weight and ideal amounts of food to eat, there are some principles basic worth knowing.

Let's start with those that help prevent bone weakening of the system:
* It is advisable to drink 2 to 4 servings of dairy a day, as their calcium intake can maintain adequate bone health. One serving equals one cup of milk, 2 cups of yogurt or 80 grams of fresh cheese.
* It is also important to include more foods rich in this mineral, including fish such as sardines or mackerel (with bones) in oil or tomato, clams, spinach, chickpeas, soybeans, broccoli, hazelnut and walnut.
* It is important to improve the intake of vitamin D, because it promotes the binding of calcium in bones. In addition to this nutrient intake in dairy and egg, is ideal moderately exposed to the sun for 15 to 20 minutes a day with appropriate filter for the body to produce it.
* Avoid excessive consumption of protein (mainly from meat) and phosphorus, plus it is necessary to stop or reduce consumption of snuff, coffee, black tea, cola and alcohol, which increases the removal of minerals.

However, to prevent overweight problem and ensure adequate nutrition of the body, it should follow the following guidelines:
* Reduce consumption of saturated fats, which abound in them meat, offal, sausages, dairy foods, confectionery industry and others that include coconut or palm oil. These products promote obesity and encourage the formation of fatty plaques in arteries.
* Replace the above items by moderate amounts of vegetable oils (olive and canola oils, mainly), as they provide energy and protect the circulatory system.
* It is strongly recommended to increase consumption to 4 servings of fish a week; it also contains fat that helps the blood stream.
* Do not consume more than 5 eggs a week.
* Include high-fiber foods (vegetables, fruits, vegetables and whole grains), by improving the intestinal transit, help whet the appetite and regulate the amount of fat absorbed during digestion.
* It is beneficial to take at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, as their nutritional content and antioxidant ensures the smooth functioning of the body in general (one serving of these products amounts, almost always, a medium piece or cup).
* It is advisable to eat pasta, rice, potatoes and vegetables for 2 to 4 times per week in moderate portions.
* You have to limit your intake of sugar and salt.
* In case you experience hot flashes (hot flushes), should avoid products that are initiated, such as sauces and marinades, spicy, chili, caffeine and alcohol.
* You need to drink at least 2 liters of water a day (8 glasses).

Another essential step to achieve a healthy lifestyle is learning to read labels of industrial products in order to meet nutritional and caloric value, without forgetting its salt content.

Overweight

What is it?
* Being overweight is to have more body fat than would be ideal for the proper functioning of the organism.
* Although fats or lipids are required for energy, regulating body temperature, hormones and enzymes to create in excess increases the risk of diabetes (high concentration of glucose in the blood), cardiovascular diseases like high blood pressure, joint problems and certain cancers.
* Basically, the reason of this problem is increased intake of calories (energy) than those required by the body as well as hereditary factors.
* Global increases in overweight are generally attributable to the modification of diet, with a tendency to consume lots of foods rich in fats and sugars.
* At the same time, there has been considerable decline in physical activity due to the nature of many jobs, and offices, as well as changes in transportation and development.

2) How is it diagnosed?
* The Specialist (general practitioner, nutritionist) observes the usual manifestations such as increased weight and fat in the body, shortness of breath, fatigue and weakness (especially in the demanding physical activity) and presence of stretch marks, varicose veins and cellulite or "orange peel" in some people.
* It also takes the weight and records the patient's body measurements, and compared these results with universal tables of weight and height.
* One of the most accepted to determine whether someone is overweight is the body mass index (BMI), mathematical formula to assess the weight of an adult in relation to their height.
* For BMI is necessary to divide the weight in kilograms by the square of height in meters (kg/m2). For example, a person weighing 90 kg and measuring 1.70 m in height has a BMI of 26.47, as: 1.70 x 1.70 = 3.4, and 90 / 3.4 = 26.47.
* A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is normal, while the figures between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight, although there may be exceptions (athletes, for example, because they have high rate, but this is due to muscle mass). Finally, a person with a BMI above 30 is obese.
* It is also useful to measure the waist circumference at the navel, without pressure and then the individual deep breath and exhale. Figures greater than 80 cm in women and 94 cm in men mean there increased risk of heart disease, diabetes or stroke.
* Another useful indicator for the physician, increasingly recognized for its effectiveness, is the waist-hip ratio. Is obtained by dividing the waist circumference between hip.
* It is common that occur parallel to overweight diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as psychological disorders such as anxiety, low self-esteem and depression, so the specialist can order lab tests or questions that delve into the patient's mood.

How is it treated?
* Must be altered eating habits of the patient, reducing the intake of calories from fat, sugar, refined flour and red meat, while the increases of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, fish and lean meats (lean) as well as water.
* You need regular physical activity (at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity, 3 to 4 days a week at least). To do this you can use exercises like walking, running, biking or rollerblading, swimming and dancing.
* It is also ideal for the specialist help treat psychological or emotional problems resulting from this condition, or that the patients go to support group or psychologist to address these issues.

How is it prevented?
* It is advisable to avoid eating fast food, soft drinks, chips and candy.
* Be preferred intake of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean meats, rather than high-calorie food.
* We need to increase overall body mobility, which can be achieved by reducing car use and walking for short distances, climb stairs and take a walk to the pet.
* The regular practice of physical exercise is essential, as well as helping to maintain proper weight, strengthens the circulatory system, reduces anxiety, regulates blood pressure, lowers blood sugar and blood cholesterol, and reduces the risk of myocardial.
* Finally, it is important that parents encourage their children good eating habits, and sports.

MY ELICINA CHALLENGE (1 MONTH AFTER)

Glad to be back!!! I have been busy *again?!* with school works and OJT. This is the busiest Holiday so far! BTW, please do follow me on twitter. Feel free to mention me /join in our makeup conversations together with other bloggers.
Honestly, this review is one of the most requested review for my blog.  I received messages in facebook, comments on my blog post and even tweets about this product. I feel bad for not being able to review it “A.S.A.P.”

Anyway, before proceeding to my review, I would like to make it clear that this product was sent by Elicina Philippines. (Thank you Mr. Jonathan) and yes, I did not purchased the product with my own money. I don’t deny the fact that I accept products sent by company to test them out, however, i didn’t give them assurance that I will give only good reviews on their products. In additional, I will not allow anyone to dictate me on what to write on my blog as I am not paid to do so (this blog is for my blog purposes only, not my job, ok?) . Rest assured, all my reviews are based on my honest opinion and experiences on the product.

Elicina, as mentioned in this post, is the “THE PIONEERS AND THE INVENTORS OF THE SNAIL CREAM.” Elicina snail cream contains 80% snail extract (other pricier snail creams contain less snail extract) in natural form: Allantoin, Collagen, Elastin, proteins and glycolic Acid.
Elicina is an all-over snail cream. According to their site, you can use snail cream for face, body, scars, burns, for stretchmark prevention, sun and age spots, wrinkles and more.
Elicina snail cream has two variant namely the original and Plus. The only difference is the latter contains moisturizer.

Packaging:
Elicina comes in two kind of packaging. The 20g Elicina cream comes in a tube while the 40g comes in a jar.

The one I received is in a jar which is completely sealed when I got it.
If you’re planning to get the 40g, I highly recommend that you buy a spatula to avoid contamination of the product. I saw a spatula in Daiso for only Php 85.00. But if you don’t like spending Php 85 for a spatula, you can use a plastic spoon.

Smell:
It has a weird scent while the product is in its packaging (because of the plastic packaging) however, the product itself has no scent at all.

Consistency:
The consistency of this cream is thick but inspite of the thick consistency, I did not had any troubles in applying it on my face. It spreads easily. A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY! My skin can easily absorbs the product .Most importantly,  although it is made from snail mucus, it doesn’t feel sticky on skin.

Effectiveness:

My skin before taking this Elicina challenge (camera used: Blackberry curve)

After a month (camera used: sony cybershot- which is obviously 6x alot clearer than blackberry curve)
sorry for the bright lighting. I took this shot on our window for you to see my skin under the sun
(click the picture to see it clearly)

Although it did not really made my skin as perfect as I want it (or as we want our skin to be), my skin did really improved. 85-90% of my pimples were healed. However, I still have few acne marks on my cheeks but hey, it’s alot better now. In all fairness, it did deliver a positive result on acne scars. Nevertheless, I do not give credit only to Elicina cream. Together with elicina cream I also used Coffee Fame soap (as facial wash) from Venus and Mars. ! It is a great soap if you have acne, BUT if you have open pores and acne, that soap will hurt your face really badly! Seriously, it’s like burning my face. So, if you don’t like that feeling, I won’t recommend you to use that soap.

NOTE: According to the label, you can use this twice a day. Though, i use it only in the morning. I prefer not applying anything on my face at night since I want my face to be really clean at night. You can definitely use it once or twice a day, whatever will works for you.

(I will try to upload more pics after 2 months)

PROS
-          Non-sticky
-          Can be easily absorb by the skin
-          Works for me
-          Quite affordable for a snail cream
-          Contains 80% snail extract
-          A little goes a long way
-          All in one product

CONS
-          Not  yet available in our local stores and malls (but you can purchase it HERE)
-          Can be drying on skin (try Elicina Plus –w/ moisturizer)

I do recommend it. But please take note that each person is different, so what works for me may not works for you.

Have you tried this product or any snail cream available in the market? Let me know! I would like to hear it from you. You can leave your comment here (but sorry I don’t usually reply on comments here because I don’t want to spam my own email but rest assured, I do read all your comments!) or share it on my facebook fan page and twitter!

Merry Christmas EVERYONE!
Don't forget to join my giveaway!
